A fresh start for January
Want a fun, exciting way to kick-start your writing goals? I may have just the thing!
Affirmation of the week
I write with joy and ease. My creative gifts are of great value to the world.
The allure of a fresh start in the New Year is hard to resist. Even though, for me, the New Year starts in Spring (it just makes more sense!) I do feel in need of a reboot after the slothful excess of the festive season.
But, as a reformed perfectionist, the last thing I need is another self-inflicted bossy schedule that wears me out before the month is even over. I believe strongly that January is for hibernating; it’s for recovering from the social demands of the past couple of months. It’s for checking in with mind, body and soul after eight weeks of delightfully trashy films and delightfully trashy food.
So, whatever January thing I implement has to be something that I want to do. It has to be fun.
That is where the bingo card comes in. If you’re on TikTok, you might have seen this idea doing the rounds: instead of doing a vision board with your goals for the year ahead (for those who don’t know, this is a big board covered with aspirational images of the things you’d like to achieve), you put them on a bingo card. The idea is that you tick them off throughout the year, rather than a vision board that inevitably gets forgotten about in mid-February.
I love this idea. I’m all for anything that makes it more fun for people to bring their dreams to life. And, as I love nothing more than helping other creative types make their dreams come true, I decided to make one just for writers.

Stick it somewhere you will see it everyday. If you commit to ticking off just two squares every month, you could have a completed first draft by the end of this year.
